BBQ GUY FOR THE 4TH OF JULY I love the 4th of July, don't you? I love going to picnics on the 4th of July too. So much fun getting together with family and friends. The BBQ, the games, the fireworks. I bet there are lot of great BBQ stories out there. Tell us, do you have a story? What great BBQ memories do you have? Are there great times you remember as a child? Are there funny stories from your past? How about great BBQ's that you are planning to hold in the near future? Tell us your funny, sad, great, bad, happy or just plain memorable BBQ you had and perhaps you will win one of the free chips we have for you this weekend. 4th of July this year might suck!!!! Hurrican Alex --- our first hurricane of the season paid a visit and we Texans got the dirty side which consist of nothing but heavy, heavy flooding - No pulling out the grill for us - we usually have a big BBQ for family and friends but this year no one really want to do a thing - weather too bad here - OH WELL, at least I have a three day weekend and all is well - HAPPY 4TH TO ALL

Ok, so we have cookouts all of the time with my mom and dad which owns a couple acres of land which part of it sits along one of our local rivers. We have like a picnic shelter down there which we all get together.

Well, last year, we were having a great cookout as usual and my son (12 years old) decided he was gonna go fish for a while. After a little while of mingling with all of our friends and family, i hear my son yelling, "get it off! get it off!" I'm thinking great, what could it be a snake, a spider, anything down by the river you don't want to run in to..... lol


So hear he comes running, fishing pole in hand, and what looks like at first, he caught himself in the butt with his fishing hook! lol Well, thinking that was funny enough, and going over to help him, he turns around and not only has he hooked himself with the hook, but apparently when he got a good bite, he jerked the line so hard, and caught a fish at the same time, and it swung over his head and hooked into his butt as well with a fish flopping all around too!!!

He had like a 12 inch smallmouth bass on his hook, and the hook poked out of the fish's mouth and snagged his pants hooking himself! lol


after about 10 minutes of trying to get both of them free, everyone at the cookout had a great laugh and started talking about this amazing "Ass-Fish" that was intruding our river lol


we didn't let him live that down for a few months and still thinking about that image makes me chuckle. lol

Today is our annual cookout once again, and can't wait to see what the "Catch of the day" will be this evening lol

A few years ago at our family 4th of July BBQ we had so many fireworks.....little did we know some where not legal.....so when a police car rolled up and an officer get out of the car everyone ran inside the house, (in 2 seconds everyone was gone!) The only ones left out in the front yard was my counsin and myself, if you saw my face I was dumb-founded and soooo embarrassed because everyone just ran in the house like a bunch of guilty criminals....it was too funny, the funnier part was that my cousin was standing just like the statue of liberty but instead of a torch it was an illegal firework in his hand.....(he had no clue about it being illegal) so as the officer approches us.....he starts busting so hard laughing....he said he had never seen anything like it......lol...he said he never seen a grandma, and even a few toddlers, dissapear so fast into a house, but the best was the stutue a libertly pose, so he couldn't stop laughing enough to cite us....we laughed so hard for hours....ofcourse, he did take the fireworks we weren't supposed to have....

ANOTHER GREAT POSTATHON!!! WOOHOO!!!

My most memorable BBQ wasn't 4th July, but my wedding day, way back in 1971. I lived in a very close-knit neighbourhood, everyone striving to make a living, but it seemed we were really happy back then, anyway. There wasn't a whole lot of money floating around back then for wedding receptions, etc, so the neighbours on each side of us took down the fences between the backyards and I had a BBQ wedding reception. We had a head table set up and lots of little tables around the now extended backyard and all the neighbours brought food, etc. What a glorious day it was!!!

On 4th of July, my favorite is a little tradition my daughter and I started....its really simple but it means a lot to her and I.

Every year, my 12 year old and I wear uncle sam top hats!! They are all glittery and all...

Yup, that is the little tradition we began since she was 7 years old, and we plan on continuing until I am 97 years old.....lol

The most happiest 4th of July for our family was 10 years ago when my daughter had her first child Shane Michael , making us grandparents for the first time. I will never forget how cute he was when I saw him in the hospital for the first time, with the little red, white and blue knit hat he had on. So the next year on his first birthday my daughter and her husband started a yearly 4th of July party , cookout and horseshoe tourney . Not only has the number of peple that attend have grown, but so has my daughter's family. Fourteen months after Shane was born, along came Jenna Rose, then 5 years later Abby Grace and just last November Ryan Thomas. So every 4th of July
has been so much fun for all of our family and friends, and it all started on that 4th of July that we became grandparents. Have a Happy and Safe 4th Everyone.

Happy 4th everyone! I don't have any stories about a bbq. We can't have fire works here because we have to many fires in the summer. We have had like 6 so far and it is just the beginning of summer ugh! Only story i have is what my dad told me a couple of weeks ago. He went to the reservation in Idaho and was buying some fun stuff when a kid lit some right by the counter..yup you guessed it! The whole stand went up in a blaze of colors and heat! Thank God no one was hurt.

Oh i do have something dad said they do every year.. Dad and mom said they put on a awesome show for the 4th every yr right on the lake. They live in Spirit Lake Idaho and their cabin is right on the water. I use to go there as a child when it was our summer lake cabin but dad and mom bought it and now live just a few feet from the water. Walk out the door and down the porch steps and there in front is beach and their dock..well dad has a set up on the dock where he lights fire works off over the water and they have many folks from all around to come and see it. Not to mention family on both ends and neighbors lol.
