Well I never thought I would see the day where I feel most hopeful of giving up smoking. I was a very heavy smoker, smoking 50 a day and really didn't want to give up. I have had a number of health issues because of it, the worst being a long term user of steroids for treating asthma, which has resulted in a number of crush fractures caused by the steroids leeching the bones and a number of recent hospital stays.

I had been looking at the e-cigarettes for awhile and after talking with a few people I decided that I would give them a go, so checked out the website and placed my order and after being admitted to hospital the last time and not smoking for several days I decided that was the time to start in earnest.

It will be 3 weeks tomorrow since I smoked a cigarette and apart from a couple of cravings early on I have barely missed them and am so happy. I am at last giving myself a chance to get off the treadmill I was on. I just want to urge anyone that is thinking of giving up smoking to check out the e-cigarettes and read up on them. There are still dangers with using the e-cigarettes, but for me they are certainly far better than ordinary cigarettes. I am particularly happy that my youngest son who is 27 has decided to give them a go also.

Good luck to anyone else who is thinking of giving up, and hopefully you will find the method that best suits you. I just wanted to share this with all of you and will keep you updated!

Fantastic Carey, I do have to say that I haven't noticed any benefits so far, except that I have had 2 dental visits in the past week and previously the dentist had to constantly stop and start cos I couldn't breathe through my nose but this time I had no problems at all so am wondering whether it could be not smoking. Good luck Carey, there are a number of different companies around, the type I use just has 2 parts to it, the battery and a Cartomizers, I noticed that some of the other places had the liquid vapor which had to be added separately, mine is so easy, I just screw the new Cartomizers into the battery and off I go!

They are called green smoke, I order from the New Zealand site, but there is a US based one also. Also the occ therapist said to definitely use the nicotine patches as well, especially for me being a heavy smoker.

That is great sorcer3ss. Having smoked heavily all my life and finally quitting 11 years ago, I know how hard it is to quit. My oldest son and his wife are doing the liquid ones and they have blueberry and all these nice smelling vapors, lol. They are doing great with them!

That's great news Judy, I bet you are happy, my son says he isn't doing too well with them, he is sticking to it, but says for him it's just nowhere near the same.

dani I know exactly how you feel, I just didn't want to give up at all, one of my specialists called me a committed smoker and that's what I was, but the minute I started reading about the e-cigs I knew they were for me cos of the fact that you still have that same thing to do with your hands, cos the physical part is just as important. I am 4 weeks today and my GP came to see me yesterday and listened to my chest and said I can't hear any crackles, that must be the first time I can remember that happening! The only other physical thing I have noticed is that I am starting to breathe through my nose again properly, I had a dental visit last week and she was able to do a filling without me having to stop her once gasping for air.

That's a good idea to just swap some of your smokes over to the e-cigs dani, that might make it easier for you. What flavour did you go for btw, Mark and I both went for a tobacco one, his was different to mine though. Don't think I fancy the chocolate ones etc.

I just chose one of the tobacco flavoured ones, did you have to add the liquid separately I noticed a couple of them were like that, I'm over 6 weeks now, how about you Carey have you been able to stick with them? Dani don't forget that you can just swap some over, like every 2nd one if you don't want to cut your ordinary cigarettes out completely.

Thanks Judy, it really is a hard thing to do, especially when you have been smoking a long time

Yeah, It is totally depends on intention to quit it. On the start, nicotine withdrawal may make you feel frustrated, depressed, restless, or irritable. Tell your friends, close relatives, and co-workers that you are trying to quit. Their encouragement could make the difference.

I do know how hard it is to quit. I quit 12 years ago after smoking for almost 30 years. I was also up to 2 - 3 packs a day!

I'm pretty pleased with myself it's just over 7 months since I stopped smoking, am still on the electronic cigarettes but I'm not worried about that. I have dropped down one level of nicotine with them. My son has managed to stay off them also which is great.
