This is currently before the Senate Committee.
Key points:
- If passed, this would open the state for Sports Betting and casino expansion
- No vote has been called at this time
Lawmakers in Georgia are considering a resolution that could bring legal Sports Betting and casino gambling to the state.
Senate Resolution 131 was recently viewed by the Senate Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee.
The resolution proposes amending the state’s Constitution to allow for expanded gambling.
Specifically, this would authorize the state’s General Assembly to “provide by law for the operation and regulation
of Sports Betting and casino gambling activities in this state”, as well as “provide for the regulation and taxation of such activities.”
SR 131 would also give the General Assembly the authority to “provide for the allocation of revenues derived
from such activities, provide for related matters, provide for the submission of this amendment for
ratification or rejection, and for other purposes.”
Georgia Senators Carden Summers, Billy Hickman, Brandon Beach and Lee Anderson have sponsored the resolution.
No vote has been called at this time.
However, the document has been read and referred by the Senate Committee, according to the government site.
Good to know: Georgia is not the only state that is currently considering expanded gambling laws, with the
Texas Governor also recently voicing his support for expanded gambling
The Indiana House Public Policy Committee recently approved a proposal that would bring legal iGaming
and online lottery sales to the Hoosier State.
The House committee passed two proposals, one that would allow legal online gaming and allow the Hoosier
Lottery to sell tickets online, and one that would permit veterans organizations, bars and charitable entities to house electronic pull tab machines.
In Mississippi, the House passed legislation in favor of legal mobile Sports Betting. This is the second consecutive
year the House has approved legal mobile sports wagering legislation. The House passed the current proposal,
a new version of the Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act, by a vote of 88-10 after it was approved by the House Gaming Committee.
This is currently before the Senate Committee.
