The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has stated that more work remains to be done, but has called
for applications from interested operators and providers.
North Carolina State Lottery Commission Chair, Ripley Rand, has stated that mobile Sports Betting will not be
legal and live in the state before the 2024 Super Bowl. An early 2024 launch is still planned, but a specific date has not been set.
Rand said, “We see questions about whether Sports Betting will be up and running in time for the Super Bowl. It’s clear,
however, with all the work remaining to be done and the timetable set out in state law that unfortunately won’t be the case."
According to local reports, sports fans in the state are comparing the time of this launch, which will be nine months or more
since Sports Betting’s legalization in June, to the six-month timeframe it took Kentucky to launch between March and September.
Progress has been made, however, with a Sports Betting committee approved in the state during October,
and rules for approved mobile Sports Betting set out in November.
Applications for Sports Betting licensure were also approved earlier this week by the North Carolina State
Lottery Commission, which now allows for ‘interactive sports wagering operators’ and their associated providers to submit applications as well.
The Sports Betting committee has its next meeting scheduled on December 6, while the next full North Carolina
State Lottery Commission meeting will be December 13. The commission’s website currently recommends that all
sports wagering operators and providers that wish to participate by the earliest “go live date” must
submit their applications to participate by December 27.
