The state is scheduled to open its regulated sports wagering market in January.
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission recently approved the charter for a Sports Betting committee,
according to a local news report in the Winston-Salem Journal. This brings the state one step closer to establishing
a regulated Sports Betting market for its residents.

The new committee was set up by the state to “provide the commission with oversight, direction and review with
respect to the adoption, implementation, revision and revocation of rules and policy matters related to Sports Betting
and pari-mutuel horse race wagering,” the local report said.

Along with the committee’s approval, the commission appointed three members to the group, including Caril Boyce,
who will serve as the committee’s leader.

North Carolina recently legalized Sports Betting and has targeted the first of the year as a target date to go live.
State regulators have also moved forward to make play instant lottery games available to the public.

Once the market is open, the Lottery Commission will be allowed to award up to 12 licenses to operators statewide.
Players would then have access to online and mobile betting, as well as in-person wagering.

In anticipation of the launch, North Carolina lobbyists around the state are encouraging legislators to add iGaming to
the list of legal gambling options for state players, which would allow them access to online casino games through their mobile devices.

In other state news, lottery ticket sales have generated more than $1bn for public education.
This is the first time North Carolina’s lottery has raised this amount.

Along with achieving this milestone, players around the state walked away with some of the highest winnings on record.
So far this fiscal year, North Carolina’s lottery has paid out an average of $7.8m in winnings per day.
