Sports wagering revenue, however, saw a 75.64% decrease.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has reported its gaming numbers for the month of November
posting a combined total revenue of $444.5m, a decrease of 1.74% compared to that of November 2022.
Sports wagering by far saw the most interesting changes year-over-year. While sports wagering total handle topped
$900m for the first time, being valued at $934.1m, sports wagering revenue actually saw a significant decrease.
For the month of November, sports wagering revenue was $12.9m, which was down from $52.9m from the same period
last year. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course saw by far the biggest decrease of all operators,
falling 483.84% to make a loss of $7.8m.
The PGCB explained that the reason for the steep drop in sports wagering revenue across the state was due to
“both the offering of a significant amount of non-taxable promotional play by the newly-launched ESPN Bet operated
under the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course sports wagering certificate and a low hold percentage that benefited bettors.”
