The commencement of legal Sports Betting will be celebrated today at an event on the casino grounds.
Sports Betting is coming to Wisconsin after it was announced that visitors to the Oneida Nation's main casino will be allowed to place wagers.
The development followed a gaming compact amendment that the Oneida made with the state which will permit “event wagering.”
Among the events that casino costumers will be able to bet on will be professional sports games, nationally televised award shows,
out-of-state college sports, and annual professional sports league drafts. Most emphasized though, will be betting on the professional
teams geographically closest to the casino: the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Milwaukee Brewers.
A ceremony celebrating the commencement of betting is due to be held today at the main casino,
which is near Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.
The move was welcome by members of the Oneida Nation, who noted that, while incidents of Sports Betting were
rife in the Badger State, the action wasn’t benefitting anyone but the illegal book keepers.
Now that is due to change.
According to Oneida Nation Gaming General Manager, Louise Cornelius: “Sports Betting is nothing new here in Wisconsin,
but legal betting is new. We hope to provide an environment for our clientele that is clean and up-to-date with the best technology possible.”
The move by the Oneida Nation was initially meant to start in September of this year but was delayed due to the late delivery of equipment.
